This book follows Ms. Lilly- a survivor of the plague. She is a damaged individual, much like all the other survivors are at this point. But... what makes her different is how she was before the plague as well. Not many people are able to better themselves due to the circumstances of a dead world... but.... yeah.... stopping there- spoiler. We get new characters- only one carries over and I am sure you can guess who he is. The plot is one that has been done a few times- zombie apocalypse, no one knows why, people gather to survive, bad guys emerge, and so on and so forth- but this is THE WALKING DEAD! I loved getting the back story. You do NOT have to be a fan of the show or graphic novels to enjoy this book. Nor do you have to have read the first one (duh... characters are different). The characterization was great. I felt like I knew them all personally.... and shed a few tears for certain ones (nope not telling). If you're a "Governor" fan then I do recommend adding this read to your list of "research" as you get to see his continued growth into the maniacal man he ends up as in the comics. :)The writing is better. I felt like the first one could be read by a 3rd grader (... well... if you left out the gore and profanity). This one has a slightly more literary feel that I greatly appreciated as I was expecting it from the first one.Just get it... read it.. and enjoy. :)(Why the 4 stars and not 5? Because there weren't any real surprises I guess. Like I said- the plot has been done and done again. Give me something to say "oh?!" to in the next one. Thanks.)
