This book is a fascinating read, that stopped me in my tracks and had me reading through it again and again. Through the character of "James", the author invites the reader to come along...or, rather, he falls down a "rabbit hole" with us in tow, and we enter into his intriguing journey of self-awareness. He grabs our attention with the twists and turns of his interrupted life, as unpredictable as a narrow road in the English countryside. The author's delightful British diction ('who gives a tinker's cuss!') adds unique charm. But, make no mistake, this is truly a "hero's journey" (but not in the egoist sense of the word),...and a painful one at that. "James" humbly lays out his fears and vulnerabilities, along with a good dose of humor and multiple cups of tea (How much tea can one man drink!?). The story is interspersed with a number of important observations and commentaries on the state of humankind, our world and the challenges we face, both as individuals and as part of the greater universe we all belong to. It gives great pause for thought. Ultimately, the mysteries of "James'" life are revealed; and after much searching he is free from the traumatic events that set the compass of his life so early. The author's profound sensitivity, appreciation of this life and love of others comes shining through. Lastly, he offers tools to the reader in the form of the practice of walking meditation. This book delivers on its promise and is not to be missed.
