I am a huge fan of both The Walking Dead and this show Fear the Walking Dead. That saying, clearly most fans like one show much more than the other. Why? Because The Walking Dead is a show for, let's face it, red states and FTWD is a show for blue states. I hope that viewers who couldn't get into TWD try this show. You don't have to have watched TWD at all to enjoy this spin-off. The second half of Season 2 is especially great. For me, FTWD, featuring strong, effective non-white male characters, is a nice change from the alpha-white-male dominated world of TWD. We get a dysfunctional-yet-basically-typical family unit living in L.A. suburbia and follow them as they deal with the unthinkable. Although Season 1 started a bit slow establishing the characters, by the end of Season 2, these characters have come a long way. How they deal with each other and engage with the walkers are already beyond where TWD characters were in Season 3.Two aspects of this show really got me hooked. Clearly with this spin-off, there is an aim of delving deeper into the characters, what they are thinking and feeling and how events test them, resulting in more character driven stories than the original show. Nick and Alicia in particular are characters that have a clear, and to me fascinating, story arc happening so far and it seems like the writers have a plan for where the characters are all going. And two, the cinematography is beautiful with interesting camera shots and uses of color that enhance the storytelling. I recommend this show and can't wait for Season 3.
