A band of humans led by a former police officer attempt to navigate a world filled with flesh-eating zombies. The zombie Apocalypse, set off by an unknown event, has left the entire earth unscathed. The group wonders from place to place attempting to set up some semblance of a viable existence. With nerves frayed and psyches teetering on the edge, their situation becomes more and more precarious. They eventually find that are other forces even more threatening than the zombies
Absolutely love TWDThis isn't the best season of The Walking Dead. It's got problems. It's much less boring that season 7, which just dragged on for freaking EVER without the plot actually advancing much. At least in season 8 the plot is moving along. The fight with The Saviors that was promised all last season is finally here. The plot development gets a little weird and unrealistic with King Ezekiel and his tiger. The first few seasons of The Walking Dead were much more realistic in terms of what a zombie apocalypse might be like for survivors. Now it's getting more fantasy like. But that's okay. Just watching people run around living in tents trying not to get eaten while they scavenge for food and supplied would have gotten boring by now. This keeps the show different. So I'm good with the crazy theatrics like Ezekiel and Negan and so on and so forth. What starts to get old is the poor prop and set design. There is a gun battle between 2 groups of people at basically point blank range firing hire powered rifles at each other while hiding behind corrugated sheet metal. Uh huh...sure. That would stop a rifle bullet about as well as a shield made out of Kleenex. Plus they are 2 groups of people standing 20 feet apart firing full auto weapons at each other...AND NO ONE GETS HIT!!! Imperial Stormtroopers shoot better than that!Stuff like that just takes you out of the story and the production looks sloppy and dumb. But that nonsense aside, the story itself it still working for me. If you overlook the ridiculously unrealistic physics of thin sheet metal stopping high powered rifles at close range and no one knowing how to shoot after surviving for 3-4 years in the apocalypse, the story about the people is still pretty interesting. At the core it's a story about people coming together to fight off those who would harm them. And it's doing a good job of showing fracturing among the heroes where they have different opinions on how the fight should be fought. So that tension makes for interesting storylines. Sure, the characters are a bit more colorful now than they were back in season 1 (barbed wire baseball bats, tigers as pets, etc) but again that's keeping the story from getting stale.I still like the show. I never miss an episode. But come on.....please make the gun fights more realistic. Negan has more lives than Duncan MacLeod. It's getting a little silly. One of the best series in my collectionI love TWD. The show has had moments were it went a little downhill for a moment or two but it picks back up later. I think season 8 was mediocre. I really felt the Negan thing was wearing thin during this season but still enjoyed it. As a whole series it’s worth buying. This season covers the All Out War between Negans Saviors and the Tri Communities of the Kingdom, Hilltop, and Alexandria. Some say this war went on wayyyy to long over the season, but at the time AMC was talking about the show going on indefinitely. Sadly, it ended March 31st 2022.UPDATE 12/01/2017: Still grinding along... Did they fire all the good writers and directors here, or what? Are these newest episodes also of shorter duration, or does it just seem that way? None of these Season 8 Episodes so far, are worth a re-watch, and that's a first for this series! It pains me to say this!I've enjoyed "The Walking Dead" since its inception on DVD, and that's unusual for me, as zombies aren't my thing. Still, the conclusion of Season One, Episode 06: TS-19, locked me into watching Season Two, where my total frustration with Hershel, Shane and Rick had me talking to myself! From there on out I've been a fan, purchasing every season on DVD, as soon as it comes out. And fans will forgive a few things, but those things do not generally include an absurd absence of logic.SPOILER: The scene in Season 8 where Rick and his people have penetrated Negan's compound, armed to the teeth, protected behind a staggered vehicular shield-wall, yet close enough to have a shouting conversation with the grandstanding Negan (as out in the open as you could hope to get him), and nobody thinks to take a single shot at the SOB?! WTF?! A well-placed bolt (arrow) from Daryl's compound crossbow would've ended Negan right there, and surely one of the rifles could've taken him out. Hell, just wounding the SOB is a worthy achievement! But no, they palaver on instead, ignoring the opportunity and allowing Negan to strut his fast-growing-tiresome stuff. It's absurd! We all saw the train come off the rails with "Dexter", when they got rid of all the talented writers and began pursuing absurd story lines; I didn't even finish the series... Any more mindless scenes like the one described above, and I'll likely walk away from this one too.Sagas go Through Three Basic Stages (a little like careers do):Stage One: A ChallengeStage Two: An AdventureStage Three: A GrindSo far, the first two episodes of "Season 8 of The Walking Dead" swing between motivational speeches and protracted scenes of ultra violence. It's becoming a grind. This current season is at a pivotal node now. Perhaps, they should take a lesson from their own episodes, which successfully detoured from the main storyline, and fleshed out an important character--the outstanding "Episode 4 from Season Six: Here's Not Here", shines as a prime example of how to artfully execute this; "The Grove" is another. Or perhaps, they should take a lesson from "Breaking Bad", which ended masterfully, poetically, and as it should have...I find myself wishing that Shiva had taken out Negan at the climax of "Season 7", and that we'd be moving on to a new story line now, or wrapping it up. Endings--at least proper endings--matter."The X-Files" serves as an example of an excellent series that ran too long. Here is one that should've ended with "Season 7".RayBWatched a few times...Es ist schon irgendwie lustig, aber die einzelnen Rezensionen zur 8. Insofern ist das kein Grund sich aufzuregen oder wütend zu sein ....einfach abschalten und gut ist!I thought this was an awesome season, why it's getting a lot of hate i will never know, but me i personally loved it, SURE it's not the best out of all the seasons but it's certainly not the worst, anyone who has a problem with this aren't true deep fans of the show, Killing walkers day in day out in a series gets a bit repetitive i like that there is a new enemy a human enemy which is obviously Negan who by the way is one of the best TV villains of all time! sure i hate what he done at the beginning of season 7 but that doesn't take away the fact he is an awesome character and the actor who is playing him is doing a fantastic job, this season is WAR! Rick and his gang vs the Saviors, non stop action and great acting from everyone, and i honestly can't wait for season 9!! i would like to write more but i can't without spoiling and i don't want to be that guy, so if you're a fan of TWD then definitely get this season it's worth it!After a very poor Series 7, with about enough material to fill just six or seven episodes [and stretched to 16], I worried it might not make it out of intensive care. It was at death's door. BUT - with emergency surgery AMD have brought it [and my faith in it] back from the brinkSeries 8 is back with a bang: lots of bangs, really. Zombie fans will probably be spitting feathers, but this is the all-out war against the Saviours most wanted in the last series. Enough action that we didn't need many zombies, anyway, and there are a few unexpected twists and turns. Entertaining? Oh my, yes!Nice to see the good old, enjoyable Walking Dead againTo be honest, I was losing interest in TWD and I was in two minds whether I should continue with it. I am glad I made the decision to order this series because it is very, very good! There is a lot going on in every episode. There is lots of walker activity, the on-going war between Rick's group and the Saviours. Negan does not dominate this series as much as he did the previous one - he had just about the right amount of screen time, and the series reveals a bit more about the seemingly duplicitous Jadis and her back story. There is tragedy (losses of characters we love) but also great hope for the future. I really enjoyed this series so much more than the previous two series and it really is worth watching if you a TWD fan or if you just fancy something different.Item itself is fine. 2 stars deducted as series 8 drags itself along like a decomposing Walker with half a leg. I really enjoyed the Walking Dead up to the introduction of Negan. Maybe Negan should’ve bashed all their heads in and have done with it. Having seen series 9 on tv, the series has got a little better but it’s hard to see where it’s all going to end up. Maybe time to wrap it all up, rather than let it become boring and spoil the memory of the early episodes
