This is a lovely picture book with beautiful photographs but has little information on actual "walking" tours. There is one map of Cape May in the front of the book but it would have been helpful if the author color-coded her featured walks on this map. Written in a flowery, child-like manner, it includes lots of useless questions..."Is your stomach growling?" and countless exclamation points. An example is when talking about the "Nut House" that sells candies and nuts the author states.."straightjacket required if you don't stop in!" I also find it amusing on the dedication page that the author thanks her chiropractor for helping her work on her shoulders and hands after hours and hours of typing while working on this book. If you were to remove all the pictures, this book you would probably have 5 pages of actual printed text.If you're visiting Cape May for the first time and are looking for a serious book on walking tours (as was I), this book is a disappointment. This was not a very useful guide for walking tours. The information provided was very basic. It appeared to be a collection of photographs from a local resident with a paragraph or two about each. I found it of no real value in preparing for the trip. This is an irritating, amateurish fan letter, illustrated with unimaginative photos, describing the author's personal faves in Cape May. This book has little historical detail, and is especially terrible if one already knows anything at all about Cape May.Spectacular photography and a friendly, easy-to-read style make this selection a great choice. As a frequent visitor to Cape May in the past, I have seen most of the sites pictured and described, but there are a few that I'll have to seek out on my next visit. For me, the book is a great memento of a place where I have many fond memories. I wish it had been available 20 years or so ago in time for my first visit! It is a great guide to introduce a first-timer to a fascinating town, and a tool for a seasoned visitor to focus on a little more detail of the unique surroundings. The pictures will keep the visit fresh in your memory. Nicely done!
