When I ordered this book for .10 cents + shipping I really expected I'd be getting some cheesy little, semi-informational, borderline useless tourist publication from the 1930-40's. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised. After reading this book for a while and loving the info I was getting, I did some quick research on the author. It turns out Stanley Clisby Arthur is not just some mere "Joe-Schmo" throwing travel books together. He was actually the Executive Director of the Louisiana State Museum back then. This guy absolutely lived and breathed New Orleans and his intense historical research of this City was a true passion of his. I imagine, being in his position with the Museum, he had unlimited access to all archives and it shows. If you ever wondered what it was like to walk through the French Quarter in the late 1930's with the best guide money could buy, this little books fits the bill. .01 cents + shipping!! Really?!?! No respect, I tell ya. ;)) Value sure is a strange creature. His New Orleans mixed drinks book is incredible too!! All recipes taken directly from the bartenders of Old New Orleans, including all of the stories surrounding them.
